Job Description


The primary responsibility of the Loss Mitigation Department is to reduce the loss to the investor and the homeowner and to make every attempt to prevent a loan from going into foreclosure.
The Underwriter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of the Specialist/Underwriter Team. Ensuring the each member of the team considers all workout options available for the homeowners/mortgagors, and processes the workout accurately, timely and within investor guidelines.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Proactively communicates with the Team and Management regarding their pipeline of loans, understanding all potential outcomes at each step of the process (e.g. point of entry into loss mitigation, point of denial of loss mitigation, point of workout offer, point of foreclosure sale).
  • Through ongoing self-education and training, ensures that all verbal and written communication is in a professional manner and represents a strong breadth of mortgage underwriting and servicing knowledge.
  • Ensures DMI complies with all state and federal laws and DMI’s Legal and Information Protection requirements.
  • Collaborates with various support departments within servicing to identify needs, propose innovative solutions and deliver results while meeting deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Handles all escalated issues timely informing and including applicable channels necessary to resolve.
  • Familiar with different agencies requirements and waterfall guidelines for various loan types. (FNMA/FHLMC, FHA/VA/GNMA, Private Portfolio)
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned by management
  • Acts as mentor to Team of Underwriters.

Job Requirements

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 3+ years Mortgage Underwriting experience with 2+ years Supervisory experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to handle high volume and multi-task effectively
